The GPTF was pleased to co-sponsor, with the Science Barge, the city's first presentation about "Passivhaus," a tried and true method that can result in nearly zero energy usage for heating and cooling one's home or business all year, protecting it from the ravages of weather, and ensuring that it is a true comfort zone for the building inhabitants.
Three certified Passivhaus (Passivehouse in English) consultants shared the stage: David White(www.rightenvironments.com), Sam McAfee (www.FourSevenFive.com) and GPTF member Rob Hothan, led a spirited presentation and dialog about this technique, which is fast becoming the principal building standard in Europe and is making inroads in the USA.
Our own Rob Hothan declared that snug, seamless state-of-the-art insulation was the key to a successful Passivhaus - "Tight is Sexy!" he declared, throwing the whole room into laughter.
It was an informative and enjoyable night. The GPTF looks forward to hearing more about Passivhaus and to disseminating news about this genuine energy saving model that can help improve comfort in the home and reduce the world's dependence on non-renewable fuel sources. Many thanks to Beczak for hosting!
