Free Sails with Ferry Sloops
The Croton Yacht Club will sponsor its annual “Hudson River Day” celebration on Saturday, September 12, from 11am – 4pm at the Croton Yacht Club located at 6 Elliott Way in Croton-on-Hudson. The mission of the event is to promote interest in the history and ecology of the river, to cultivate future local environmental leaders and to promote, enhance and protect river related recreational resources.
Events and exhibits will include:
- Seining exhibition where local marine life will be captured, displayed and later released
- Viewing tanks where local marine life can be identified and observed
- Exhibits on the river’s impact on local American history
- Hands-on exhibits for children such as toy sailboat making, fossil making and fish printing
- Local artist displays and sales

The sails will depart at 11AM, 12PM, 1PM, 2PM, and 3PM. Each sail will be approximately 45 minutes long.
The free sails are on a “first come, first served” basis. No reservations will be accepted prior to the sail day. Guests can sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the big tent beginning at 10:30AM for any of the day’s scheduled sail times. (limit of 4 passengers per sail)
The boat’s captain reserves the right to cancel any or all of the day’s sails, if weather conditions make it unsafe for sailing. There is no rain date.
Passenger age requirement: must be at least 12 years old, under 18 years old must be accompanied by parent or adult guardian. (no exceptions)
Food and beverages will be available, including the best fish chowder on the Hudson. Admission is free, so please come and join us in a fun filled, educational and family focused event you will surely enjoy.
