green mountain energy

footballWho has their finger on the Green pulse for Super Bowl XLVI? Huffington Post offers this article about Green Super Bowl XLVI, Technorati offers How To Host A Green Super Bowl Party, and Pesico has 6 Dream Machines on hand this evening and Green Mountain Energy is offsetting energy use at the stadium.

Here at home in the last couple of hours before the game there are still oprotunities to reduce waste. Consider leftover food. Wondering if the folks at the office may not need the extra calories? In NYC use The Food Bank's Locator to learn where to take your party leftovers. In Westchester The Food Bank Accepts Donations, In Ulster Family accepts food donations.

dreamstime_7144025_Empire_State_BuildingThe Empire State Building spent the last couple of years burnishing the 80-year-old landmark's green bona fides - chiefly though a series of efficiency upgrades and other energy retrofits.

Last week the building’s caretakers announced another milestone:

A two-year deal brokered with Green Mountain Energy, a renewable power and carbon offset retailer recently acquired by NRG Energy of New Jersey, the Empire State Building will purchase 55 million kilowatt-hours worth of renewable energy certificates annually — enough to cover its yearly electricity consumption.

The process was facilitated in part by the EPA's Green Power Partnership. A voluntary program that supports the organizational procurement of green power by offering expert advice, technical support, tools and resources.

More about the agreement in these USA Today and The New York Times articles.
