Our culture so often tells us to work, work, work in order to have a big home and fill it lots of things. But all that working and consuming can be very hard on us physically, mentally, and financially! And the manufacture of all that new "stuff" we buy is also hard on the environment.
There is a simple lifestyle change that can help us protect our environment and also relieve pressure to work hard in order to consume hard. Many call this lifestyle change “Voluntary Simplicity.” Living more simply, more happily, and more responsibly by purchasing used or re-purposed items and goods made with recycled materials.
Did you know that besides thrift stores (like Goodwill) you can also attend community tag sales (like the one in Hastings-on-Hudson on Oct. 1) and check out “Take It Or Leave It” centers in our area (like in White Plains)?
Changing our consuming habits to support resale and donation is a great way to make a positive and environmentally friendly lifestyle change. Investigate what kinds of exchange programs or sales your community has to offer!
