Transition US has announced that Transition Westchester is the 106th official Transition Initiative in the United States and the first official Transition Initiative in the state of New York.

The Transition Town movement is a creative, community-based response to the growing challenges of economic instability, energy resource depletion, and climate change (including weather extremes). The movement, started in the UK in 2005 by permaculture designer Rob Hopkins, has  spread worldwide. It represents one of the most promising ways of engaging people in strengthening their communities against the effects of these challenges, resulting in a life that is more abundant, fulfilling, equitable and socially connected.
Transition Initiatives such as Transition Westchester seek to engage residents from all aspects of the community to work together in a positive, practical process that is flexible and fun, encourages local creativity and cooperation, and results in a stronger, more cohesive community. Transition Westchester works to help communities in Westchester County strengthen community resilience and vitality. They will hold monthly events in 2012, all open to the public.
