Upcoming Programs at Five Rivers: Ravens, Crows and Jays, plus a Guided Walk

Ravens, Crows and Jays, plus a Guided Walk

oin us on Saturday, September 5 at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center, 56 Game Farm Road, Delmar, to explore outdoors.

At 10:00 a.m., we’ll go for a walk along the Big Pine Trail. This scenic trail runs along the Vlomankill stream, under pines and hemlocks, and supports a variety of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Participants will look for signs of, and learn about, some of the many amazing animals this beautiful habitat supports.

Learn about ravens, crows and jays during a presentation beginning at 2:00 p.m. These species belong to a larger family of birds called corvids, arguably the most intelligent birds in the world. Species within this family are found in different regions around the globe, including at Five Rivers. The presentation will begin indoors and will include an opportunity to meet a live Common Raven. Afterwards, the group will venture afield to learn about the habitat and behaviors of local corvid species.
